I’ve heard it said that Northerners move south for the warm weather, but the only reason they stay is because of air conditioning.
We’ve been without A.C. in our downstairs for about 2 weeks. It’s been, shall we say, interesting. At first, I was stoic. Hey, we can handle this. We can be uncomfortable for a bit. Most of my summer childhood was spent on front porches and screened porches. I’m not spoiled. I can deal with heat. I’m born and bred in the deep South.
So far, I’ve taken a lot of showers. I think I’ve even sweated while showering. I towel off and just start sweating again. I walk around in Don’s underwear and a tank top. It’s not a pretty sight, but hey, I’M HOT! There’s minimal cooking happening. No wonder Southerners eat tomato sandwiches and cold cucumbers all summer.
It takes some getting used to – walking in the door expecting that blast of cold air, only to be greeted by more hot air. Fans are positioned all over the downstairs. Keep that air moving! Hot moving air is better than hot stagnant air.
Our bedroom stays cool because the upstairs A.C. does work, but there is no way for it to help with the blanketing heat downstairs.
Don’s first cousin is my HVAC miracle man. He arrived today. A real Christmas in July!
The air is on and running and getting cool! This place is going to feel like a meat locker — at least until I get the electric bill!
And I’m wondering — Am I a true Southerner? Because that was a brutal 2 weeks.
